Luke Donald will make his debut in the Welsh Open to be held at Celtic Manor early next month.
He will be hoping to regain a place in the European Ryder Cup Team to be played at the same venue in October this year by impressing Colin Montgomerie the European Ryder Cup Captain.
Donald certainly has the right credentials with three top ten finishes in the USA this season, and currently ranking 19th in the World Top Golfers.
He missed out on the 2008 Ryder Cup due to a wrist Injury, but made an impressive performance in the 2004 and 2006 Ryder Cups where he earned five and half points from a possible seven.
At the moment he is seventh on the Ryder Cup World Points List. The top four are automatic qualifying places
“After The Players Championship in the States, I’m going to play at Wentworth, Madrid and then at Celtic Manor for the Wales Open,” said Donald in his diary for golfmagic.com. “I haven’t played The Twenty Ten Course at Celtic Manor yet so hopefully it will be good practice for The Ryder Cup because I'm determined to make the team again.” said Donald
Celtic Manor Chief executive Dylan Matthews is pleased that Luke Donald has decided to enter the golf tournament, “We are delighted that Luke Donald has entered the tournament as we look forward to seeing the strongest playing field ever assembled for the Wales Open” he said
