German Bernard Langer has become the first continental European to win the Senior Open Championship at Carnoustie, Scotland last weekend.
The two times Masters Winner, finished on 72, for a five under par total to beat this year’s US Ryder Cup Captain Cory Pavin by one stroke.
Despite toping various money lists since turning 50, Langer, a former Ryder Cup Captain himself, has failed to win a Senior Major title.
He has finished in the top ten in seven of the 12 Senior Majors he has played in. In contrast Pavin was playing in his first Senior Masters after turning 50 last November
This ranks very high," said Langer. "Obviously it was pretty close to my two US Masters championships and some of The Ryder Cup stuff I won - it's a thrill to finally hold this trophy.
Langer will now head off to the Sahalee Country Club Seattle to play in this week’s US Senior Open, where he will again play against Pavin in his first two rounds
Forgan Sponsored Ina Woosnam came in tied 8th with Americans Jay Haas and Tommy Armour 111 at one over 72.
Fellow Forgan sponsored staff player D J Russell tied 26th on 7 over.
