Forgan’s Ian Woosnam will head to Wales next week to play in the Ryder Cup Wales Senior Open to be played once again at the challenging Royal Porthcawl Golf Club.

He has not won on his home soil since winning the Epson Grand Prix at St Pierre some 20 years ago but has come close particularly in the last 2 years at this event when finishing 2nd to Peter Mitchell in 2008 and 3rd to Bertus Smit last year.

Commenting on his chances the former Ryder Cup captain and World number one said “My only win in Wales was some time ago, but I feel I have been close several times since – especially in the Ryder Cup Wales Seniors Open”

“I get some great support from the Welsh crowds and I would love to repay them by claiming the title. That was certainly the case last year at Royal Porthcawl, which is one of my favourite courses in the world and somewhere I have good memories of.

“It was disappointing not to finish things off on the final day for the last two years, but Peter and Bertus played well. Hopefully this time round it will be me coming strongly on the final day.”

Also in the field will be England’s David J Russell, who like Woosnam will be using his new Forgan 150 Year limited edition irons in the event having given increasing positive feedback on the playability and feel to the Forgan technicians.
