Luke Donald has won the Madrid Masters, by one shot, finishing on 67 with a 21 under par total of 267.
It is his first victory in four years and earns him a prize fund of 250 thousand Euros. He last win was the Honda Classic in America in March 2006 and his last European win was in Switzerland in September 2004. He lost last week’s BMW PGA Championship by a shot.
He shared the overnight two shot lead with Welshman Rhys Davies and went into the last hole one in front, where they both made par.
It's been a while since I won and to put last week behind me makes me very proud," said Donald. "The way I played means a lot to me. The eagle was huge because Rhys put a lot of pressure on me. It's happiness and relief - definitely some relief."
The win means he now goes from thirteenth place to ninth in the Official World Golf Rankings. England now have an amazing four golfers in the top ten of the World Golf Rankings.
He also rises to fourth in the world point’s list table from which the top four automatically qualify for the Ryder Cup Team.
