England's Robert Rock won the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship with a final round of two-under-par 70 to finish 13 under par for a one stroke victory over Rory McIlroy. Rock's final round partner Tiger Woods, Graeme McDowell and Thomas Bjorn all shared third place one stroke further back.
Whilst this wasn't Rock's largest cheque on the European Tour, he pocketed the €500,000 at the 3 Irish Open in 2009, it is surely his biggest win, a win the takes him from 117th to 55th in the world.
On the PGA Tour, Brandt Snedeker won the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines after a play-off with Kyle Stanley who was three clear on the final tee but ran up a triple-bogey eight on the Par 5 72nd hole.
Stanley spun his third shot back into the water before hitting his fifth to the back shelf of the green. A three-putt from 45 feet followed for 74 and the pair headed back to the 18th tee for a play-off.
Snedeker won the play-off at the second hole and climbs to World Number 15, a career high and jump of 18 positions.
But the largest mover in the Wolrd Golf Rankings was German golfer Max Kieffer. Kieffer claimed his maiden Challenge Tour title after he battled through a play-off against home favourite Rahil Gangjee, his par on the first play-off hole securing the Gujarat Kensville Challenge. Kieffer jumps 357 positions in the Official World Golf Ranking to 375th. |
