Forgan staff player, David J Russell, affectionately known as ‘DJ’, final claimed his first win on the European Seniors Tour at the prestigious PGA Seniors Championship after 112 events that had included 9 runners up spots.

In an extremely strong field, that included fellow Forgan Staff Member Ian Woosnam, Sam Torrance, Sandy Lyle, Carl Mason and Barry Lane, DJ shone in the wonderful weather at Slaley Hall Golf Complex.

The degree of difficulty of the course meant that only 5 people finished the week under par with Russell lead the way at 5 under par, 2 shots clear of Angel Franco, Barry Lane and Chris Williams and claimed the €47,732 first prize to move him up to 11th on the order of merit.

DJ was confident going into the week telling Forgan CEO Simon Millington that he was in great form but just needed a bit of good fortune. That came on the last day when with a six shot cushion he inexplicably went triple bogey, double bogey, bogey on holes 8 through 10 and found himself 1 shot off the pace.

However back to back birdies on 11 and 12 steadied the ship and his luck finally arrived on the 18th when he rattled the stick to hold on and complete his victory.
