Englishman Barry Lane won the Scottish Senior Open at Fairmont St. Andrews this weekend and in doing so has made history by becoming the only golfer to win a European and Senior Tour title at St.Andrews.
It is Lane’s first Senior Tour win and his fourth appearance eon the tour, since joining it in June.
The 50 year old had a final round of 72, to take him to a four under 212 winning score. Along with a £37,500 winner’s cheque, the victory also moves him up to 17th in the Senior Order of Merit.
With strong winds hampering play the last day of play, Lane produced a wonderful display of ball contro9l over the challenging links course.
Coming into the back nine, lane was tied under with Glen Ralph and DJ Russell, but soon found himself four clear as the other two struggled with the conditions.
Lane was the only man in the 78 strong field to finish under par.
Glen Ralph finished tied second with Jim Rhodes on level par.
Forgan sponsored DJ Russell came fourth on one over, whilst fellow Forgan staff player Ian Woosnam finished tied 19th with Bob Cameron, Peter Mitchell, Andrew Oldcorn, Juan Quiros and Sam Torrence.
